What is a multiplayer server without a good ole' console window! Well as you know I use Game Maker: Studio for all of my game development and one feature that is not part of GM:S is access to Windows command prompt (A.K.A. CMD). But because I am stubborn, I say "pfftt, screw that mess". My decision to make my own CMD was one I figured wasn't going to lead to a three hour hair pulling session. Alas after plenty of my hair had been torn away, I found myself with a fully functional command prompt! It looks just like the real thing except I chose to go with true type font instead of the bitmap based font that the real Windows CMD uses.
While I understand that a boring black window with some geeky text may not appear to be a great accomplishment to some people, I want to assure you that those people are wrong. This is the foundation of the servers communication with the user. If this sweet piece of application didn't run at 8000+ fps, well then I'd be failing you and everyone else.
What Got Done Besides The Console Window
Clients can now connect to the server and the server can now reply to the clients. They already have multi-step verification for logging in. The users Steam persona and ID is sent alongside the applications "Game ID". The server compares the game ID with its own and if they match the server proceeds onward, otherwise the server kicks the client and informs them of the unfortunate situation.
New Webcam, Prettier Streams!
I got a new webcam. Is there really much more to say? This records at a lovely 60 fps 1080p recording and even 15MP pictures. I love it and recommend it. The Logitech C920 absolutely kills the Logitech C270. Enjoy my face.
