You'll see a small bit of the new day and night cycle in the .gif above as well. I had to use a different shader due to transparent edges that were left over on some of the sprites. The shader currently in use is basically just the overlay blend mode used in Photoshop.
As for the new perspective, that is a bit more complicated. You have to convert the objects location in the 3D world into a 2D coordinate to draw on the screen. Thanks to some hard work put it by some of my fellow members in the Game Maker community
New Time System
I wrote a very sophisticated time system for Rock God Tycoon that handles a 24 hour cycle in the best possible way (at least as far as my knowledge goes). I have implemented for Project Explore and love the results. It makes everything just a bit more in-depth for the user. For example, want to know what day it is in the game world? January 23, Year 1 would be your answer if your world began on January 23rd.
I think it gives a deeper sense of immersion and is entirely worth the whole 1 kb of additional memory required.
How I imagine current owners of Project Explore are feeling now (or hope at least)
