Panos and I played Rock God Tycoon for about 30 minutes together yesterday and found a load of small problems. One of the not so big issues was the game freezing while loading a new world.
Game Maker and Asynchronous Actions
Game Maker doesn't like doing stuff asynchronously. While it does have some asynchronous functionality, doing most of the basic functions doesn't allow for it. This makes doing large operations very difficult since the game will freeze for a short time unless you do something about it.
The game used to just freeze while it generated 2000 bands and their albums. Now instead it generates 10-20 bands per frame and then continues that work in the next frame. I know it sounds like a simple fix but it is a pain to implement nonetheless.
Play Testing Has Started
It has finally begun! In its current form Rock God Tycoon doesn't offer much. So much of the game is finished but not glued together yet. Panos has done a great job of finishing most of his work so now the remaining portion of this creation process relies on me. This means I will be handling most of the play testing feedback regarding bugs and performance issues.
Animated At Last
You may not have noticed in the past but the character in Rock God Tycoon were never animated. They were static and served as nothing more than manikin. Well not anymore!
You may notice a few weird issues with clothing but that is an easy fix that we will fix in the future. Just have to re-position clothing in a few places.
