Set goals that are reachable but difficult to obtain. Make sure that it won't require 5+ years of day to day effort. I was once told that the higher you aim the higher you'll go. This is excellent advice and I live by it. If you don't set difficult goals than you'll never be any better at what you do than the person next to you.
Clear the calendar and really make a commitment to your goal. If you have friends that are negatively influencing you then you should cut contact with them. Maybe your day job is eating away at you and leaving you exhausted. Well then leave that job and find something else (or put up with it) so you can truly commit to your goal.
Never Back Down
You know when you have to clean your house and think of how much work that entitles? Don't do that anymore. Look at what needs to get done next and do it. Taking things in small steps will completely change your work ethic and for the better. A mountain becomes a series of small ant hills and before you know it you'll be completely through whatever you needed to get done.
Make Your Dreams Your Reality
If all you do is talk about how you are going to eventually reach your goal then you will never reach your goal. Embrace it and make it a part of your day to day life. Make it a part of your daily routine. Really become comfortable talking about your goal as if you are already there.
