At last I have given Project Explore some development effort. The multiplayer is coming along great and already allows for a number of basic features. Drop in and drop out support. Infinitely many clients (although I imagine the server will start dying around 64).
I have also put a lot of effort into optimizing the code as much as I possibly can. The game should run like butter for anybody and everybody. I expect users will be happy when this starts getting finalized and I can finally push it out to the public.
Rock God Tycoon has also taken up a lot of my time as we are working on a huge feature at the moment. Balancing my time between the two projects for my own sanity has been a lot of fun.
The standing desk, a quick update
My legs no longer hurt at the end of the day! I'm so glad I powered through the pain because I'm having an absolute blast now. I feel great at the end of the day and can work for longer sessions throughout the day.
The next few days are going to involve me trying to test out the pattern program I wrote and implementing the outputted files into Rock God Tycoon. I wish I could post more here but I honestly just don't have the time.
I promise to be back on top of this blog eventually. It takes quite some time and effort to write out a decent post.
I've changed my work station once again. Not a big deal if you've read my previous blog posts. I move/rearrange my desk every other month or so.
How has the standing desk affected me?
First off, my legs are sore. I would love to sit all day at this point but I am more disciplined than that. I do sit down occasionally or walk around but I refuse to switch back to sitting for more than an hour at a time (usually just when I game with a controller). Despite my physical discomfort I actually feel great. I feel more awake, energetic, and generally just more alive.
Previously I would sit at my computer anywhere from 8 to 15 hours a day (generally upwards of 10 hours) and by the 2nd or 3rd hour I would feel exhausted. Coffee helps but doesn't really wake me up the same way as moving around or standing up.
I'm not sure whether or not I can recommend a standing desk to anyone just yet as I've only really used it for three days now. I'll have to wait at least another month or two before I can pass valid judgement on this setup as a long term workstation.
Routine vs Chaos
For years I've read self-help guides for those of us with ADD/ADHD and one reoccurring tip I've seen is to setup a routine. Humans love routine, especially those of us that are disorganized and sporadic. I'm only on day two of my routine but I have to say, forcing myself to go to bed at 12am has done wonders. I no longer become nocturnal every other day (so far). Ideally this will keep my work productivity higher than it is when I'm exhausted and off schedule. As I said with the standing desk, only time will tell.
Moving out (again)
In February (early on in the month) I will be moving into a new apartment, this time with only Jesselle (Gazelle). We are both ecstatic about the move and feel like real adults now (not really). Neither of us have even seen the apartment yet but the rent was too low to ignore and so we leaped at the opportunity. Our lease here ends in February and we've been at this current apartment since mid 2015 so it's about time we move on.
Hopefully the new place gives Jesselle and I some much needed peace of mind, and privacy. Having a roommate isn't necessarily intrusive but you can't do whatever you want like you can when you are alone. Examples:
As you can see there are many benefits to living alone. I particularly enjoy the ones where I can do my own thing and not have to consider others. Unfortunately for me I care about other humans and have to be respectful of them due to the golden rule, "Treat others as you wish to be treated".
Our current roommate isn't the most considerate person and while he isn't blatantly disrespectful, it's enough to make us not want to live with him/her. Even if we had a perfect roommate though, having to be respectful of others sucks ass and so we would be moving out anyways.
Did you really read all of that?
Well if you did, thank you for caring so much about my life. Feel free to leave a positive comment below such as, "Hey, good for you!" or, "Praying for you!". No but actual discussion would be more than welcome.
Thanks for reading. (:
