I've worked a lot over the last few days on improving the game's functionality. This means issues such as wolves walking through walls need to be fixed. If you build a house and take shelter, well you should feel safe. My solution to this dilemma?
AI path finding! What is this you ask? It's path finding of course! It means that the AI does the math and works out a couple of paths from its position to its target position. It then decides which of the many options is the quickest and proceeds along that path. I'm using a grid system for this because it's a lot faster than the previous potential step system I used. I used a global grid system that any object can access. This saves loads of memory and results in less frame drops when determining a path.
If the AI can't reach its target then it will proceed with a different designated action. In the wolf's case it will run away and accept that its prey is unreachable.
Yes, I've added doors to the game as well. They are shown in the screenshots above. I think it's a nice touch to the game and a much needed update to the construction system.
I've also worked on the soundtrack for Project Explore. I think I've found a fitting sound for it but I could very well change it. Let me know what you think!
